Negative pressure wound therapy
Negative Pressure Wound Therapy
Negative pressure wound therapy is used to draw out infectious and excess fluid. A vacuum pump with a special bandage is sealed over the wound. This form of treatment is used for burns, pressure ulcers, diabetic ulcers, chronic wounds, and other skin injuries.
How it works
Negative pressure wound therapy prevents infection and promotes healthy tissue growth. Layers of foam dressing are fitted to the wound size and shape and then sealed with a film. The film has an opening where a tube is attached with a vacuum and cannister at the end of the tube. The vacuum gently pumps out excess fluid and creates a negative pressure, which pulls the wound edges together and helps new tissue grow faster.
