Epidermal grafting
epidermal grafting
Epidermal grafting is a form of wound care that can permanently or temporarily replace damaged skin. You skin barrier is important because it protects the body from fluid loss, regulates your body’s temperature, and prevents bacteria or viruses from infecting your body. Skin loss can occur from skin infections, deep burns, large open wounds, bed sores, or skin cancer surgery.
How it works
Epidermal grafting is a procedure where a healthy sample of tissue is removed and transplanted to the area with damaged or missing skin. The transplanted tissue will then connect to the skin around it, resulting in a closed and healed wound. This form of treatment is used when the loss of skin is too big to be closed by stitches or local skin.
